A great realtor I know was getting coached in the art of selling, prospecting and closing by another great realtor – her mentor.

“I don’t have time…” she complained. “I want to do all of these things you tell me to do, but I just don’t have time!”

How many of us succumb to the excuses that cut ourselves off from greatness?

The word decision is derived from Latin and literally means, “To cut off”. To make a decision is to cut off the alternative… There is no room on the fence!

When we make a decision, the other option, the option that we chose to forego becomes cut off and we cannot pursue it. We can truly only focus on one opportunity at a time. We either make excuses, or we make money, but we can’t do both. We have to make a decision.

“I don’t have time” complained the realtor. “I have too many things to do and not enough time.”

Her mentor smiled at her and said, “If you don’t have enough time, wake up earlier!”

We all have 24 hours in a day, and every day, we all use the entire 24 hours available to us. Donald Trump is rumored to be worth 9 Billion dollars and he uses 24 hours in a day. In the same vein, a homeless man on the street with a net worth of zero also uses 24 hours a day… but what makes them different?

Success depends on resourcefulness, not resources. It’s what we do with what we have that determines whether we win or lose at our endeavors. Our starting position and our resources don’t matter!

A resourceful man can take a poor position and make it favorable while a wasteful man can throw away endless time, money and talent.

A man who wastes time will also waste money.

“Wake up earlier!” demanded the mentor. “By waking up earlier, you’ll have to go to bed earlier! At 5am, no one will bother you, you will be able to focus and by the time the world starts at 9am, you will already have a day’s work done. Just do more with what you have and use your time differently.”

There are no excuses.
